At first there were 70 stars because Bowser demanded it. Then there were 16 stars because MIPS demanded it. Then there was 1 star because Bowser's Sub demanded it. Now there are none because the players at the site which made this movie are impatient and demanded the game be quicker. This run is played with an emulator, slowdown and flagrant abuse of save-states to correct any minor mistakes. As a result, Mario is not being controlled by a mere mortal and he can consistently do things a real human cannot. Anyone posting comments to the effect that this video is cheated, photoshopped or that the player is the best player alive obviously hasn't read this description. So sit back and watch Super Mario 64 be taken apart like it's never been before. Authors: AKA & Swordless Link Site: http://tasvideos.org/1017M.html

TAS is not a program. It's an abbreviation for "Tool assisted speed-run" They take advantage of a few emulator features, like save states, for precision, and makes the player look like he/she is a god at the game. It pretty much shows that it is possible to beat the game in that short amount of time, but, but it would require godly skills.
  16. Burhdon Says:

...meant as a reply to the guy talking about the jump at 4:45, although now that I look at again it's pretty obvious that its about the platform getting as high as possible in order to make the jump. Still... no mistake.
  21. Fainche Says:
Hm, he's doing the "turnaround jump" (don't know the real name) to reach the platform above. That move requires you to do that kind of slow complete turn around. Look at it this way: Every single moment of this run has been cut down to "close to perfection". That slow turn you're talking about takes A LOT of time (relatively speaking). I'm sure the creators of the run NEVER would have gone with it if it were a mistake.
  22. Rinna Says:
    super super super mario :P
  23. Chrisanne Says:
I really wonder what Einstein would have said about this. Mario uses his awesome knowledge of the space-time continuum (or something like that) to reach Bowser. Passing through those walls should no doubt give him the Nobel Price!
  24. Kibou Says:
Damn. That must have been some good cake. i gotta get me some of that cake. lol
  25. Armstrong Says:
this is THE greatest speedrun of all time
