Bei die Wikingers in Haithabu lebte 'ne Frau mit rote Haare. Das gibt es bei die Wikinders ab und zu, und die hier hiess Renate. Sie war hübsch in' Gesicht und trank den Met mit Wonne und fuhr auch gern zur See. Und wenn ein Mann auch mal charmant sein konnte denn sagte sie auch nich nee. Volle Granate, Renate..... Alle riefen, wenn sie in die Kneipe ging: "Nati, du kannst Hüften schwing'!" Aufe Überfahrt nach Amerika war Renate mit dabei. Sie schmuste an' Heck mit Knut und war von' Met schon reichlich high. Rollo biss vor Wut ins Segel und schrie: "Hier wird gerudert und nich geschludert!" Nati lallte:"Du kriegst an' Hals, und wie, bis du die dicken Augen zu hast!" Volle Granate, Renate.... "Pass auf, Rollo, wenn ich dich antick; denn kippst du in' Atlantik!" Der blonde Knut schrie:"Da vorne is Amerika!" Alle tippten sich nur an die Stirne. "Kauf' dir 'ne Kassenbrille vonne AOK. Du hast das nur noch inne Birne." Knack! machte das und sie warn an' Ziel und kippten aus'n Schiff an Land. "Was für'n Volk wohnt hier wohl achtern Priel? Da sind wir aber mal gespannt." & Hermann Thimig. Renate Müller (April 26, 1906 -- suicide October 1, 1937) was a German actress. Born in Munich, Germany, Müller entered films in the late 1920s in Berlin and quickly became popular. A blue-eyed blonde, she was considered to be one of the great beauties of her day and along with Marlene Dietrich was seen to embody fashionable Berlin society. She starred in more than 20 German films, including Viktor und Viktoria (1933), one of her biggest successes, which was remade decades later as Victor/Victoria with Julie Andrews.She was observed by the Gestapo, began to drink and killed herself (she was in love with a Jew) Anton Walbrook: He was born Adolf Wohlbrück in Vienna, Austria, descended from ten generations of actors. His father broke with tradition and was a circus clown. Walbrook studied with the director Max Reinhardt, built up a career in Austrian theatre and cinema. In 1936 he went to Hollywood to reshoot dialogue for the multinational The Soldier and the Lady (1937), in the process changing his name from Adolf to Anton. As a homosexual, his life in Austria was becoming intolerable under Nazi rule. Instead of returning he settled in England, and continued as working as a cinema actor. High points include the dashing, intense German officer Theo Kretschmar-Schuldorff in The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943), the tyrannical impresario in The Red Shoes (1948) and the ringmaster in La Ronde (1950). One of his most unusual films is the 1948 Queen of Spades, an odd, gothic chiller in which he co-starred with Edith Evans. Co-star Moira Shearer said Walbrook was a loner on set, often wearing dark glasses and eating alone. He retired from films at the end of the 1950s, and in later years appeared on the European stage and television. He died of a heart attack in Garatshausen, Germany in 1967.

The dreamy "Regentropfen (die an dein Fenster klopfen)" (Raindrops, knocking on your window)is one of my favourite tangos... This is an early recording by Rudi Schuricke, who is billed on the record as Rudolf Schuricke... Not really knowing what video to make, I decided to dedicate it to movie star Renate Müller (1906-37), once one of the most popular actresses in Europe... Starting out her movie career in the late 1920's, she became a star with the introduction of sound... She starred opposite some of the most popular actors such as Luis Trenker, Emil Jannings, Willy Fritsch and especially Adolf Wohlbrück/Anton Walbrook. In 1931 her star status was confirmed when she played "Die Privatsekretärin" (Private secretary/ Enl version : Sunshine Susie - 1933) and sang "Ich bin ja heut so glücklich/Today I feel so happy", which was on everybody's lips during the dark days of the economic depression. In 1933 she starred in "Viktor und Viktoria", her most famous movie, remade as "Victor/Victoria" starring Julie Andrews in 1981. Her charm, talent and melodic voice made her a gifted and irresistible comedienne...One of her last triumphs was in Willy Forst's "Allotria" (1936) as Viola (with her own theme music throughout the movie) opposite Jenny Jugo, Heinz Rühmann and Adolf Wohlbrück, her frequent co-star. Finding life increasingly difficult and feeling pressured by the new political establishment (she was in love with a jewish man) she began to drink, used drugs and suffered epileptic attacks. After a fall from the first floor of her home (most probably accidental), she died in hospital from complications after surgery on 7.10.1937. She was 31. Soon after her early death, rumours and fabricated stories started circulating... They ranged from her being Hitler's mistress to her being murdered by the Gestapo... The truth is rather simple : her death was just as accidental as it was tragic... This video shows pictures of Renate Müller from my personal collection as well as clips from "Viktor und Viktoria" (1933), "Die englische Heirat" (1934) and "Allotria" (1936). Her partner in all these clips is Adolf Wohlbrück/Anton Walbrook (1900-67), her frequent (and best) partner. About the record : Cristal : 3568/C8880 This is a Cristal release (French version of the Kristall label) probably pressed for the Belgian market. While I am generally rather unimpressed by the technical quality of the Kristall/Cristal production, this record is in mint condition and produces a beautiful sound.
