Using Sniffer Rats to Detect Tuberculosis
Posted in: Videos | January 8th, 2009

APOPO trains sniffer rats to detect explosives and diagnose disease. This unusual idea has been developed into a competitive technology by a group of Belgian and Tanzanian researchers and animal trainers. This video demonstrates the use of sniffer rats to detect tuberculosis in human sputum samples. This method is far more cost-effective and efficient than other methods, including using lab technicians.

The Wed night before this video was shot, I stopped by a local ball field for an hour or so. Found 4 silvers in a place that I thought was hunted out. I planned to work it hard the following Saturday. I thought the prospect of finding more silver was pretty good, so I decided to bring my video camera with me for the first time. Turned out to be a good decision :)
Detecting Tornadoes - Part 1
Posted in: Videos | January 8th, 2009

This is part one of two of the video "Detecting Tornadoes" (that's not its original name, for whatever reason the producers of this videotape decided to rename it. The original title of this film was "Tornado - A Spotter's Guide" and was made in 1977). It is an old training video for storm spotters. Footage of various tornadoes are shown. There are some occasional glitches seen in the video because this tape is over ten years old and is quite worn, not to mention it runs at EP speed. *UPDATED* I'm going to attempt to identify which tornadoes are used in this video. Some of the tornadoes I don't know at all and will mark them with four question marks (????). Some of the tornadoes I'm not 100% sure about and will list what tornado I think it is but will place two question marks at the end (??). If anybody knows which tornadoes these are or if I labeled any of the tornadoes wrong please inform me so I can correct/update it. 1:38-1:41 Dallas, TX 5/26/1976 1:47-1:48 Dallas, TX 5/26/1976 1:50-2:01 Dallas, TX 5/26/1976 7:12-7:18 Waurika, OK 5/30/1976 7:18-7:24 Waurika, OK 5/30/1976 7:25-7:32 Scottsbluff, NE 6/27/1955 ?? 7:33-7:40 Perrin AFB, TX 4/18/1957 7:40-7:55 Cabot, AR 3/29/1976

Buy a Metal Detector at: http://adfarm.mediaplex.com/ad/ck/711-1751-4544-0 Metal Detecting America brings you Episode 3. Correction on Video is says 1935 when in fact it is actually an 1835 park. I was metal detecting a local park that was donated to the village of Plainfield in 1835. There are events there every year like the annual Plainfield Festival. There are carnival rides and fun booths set up all over the place, so this makes for a good place to detect year round. The outside edges about 10-15 feet from the curb are the best places to hunt for treasures using your metal detector because fill dirt was hauled in beyond those points making the older coins unretrievable because of the extra added depth. http://www.metaldetectingamerica.robdurham.com
